I was looking at batteries yesterday expecting to find a cheap new one for 40-50 bucks. The cheapest one was 85 with most being 100 or more! That's crazy! I havent purchased a car battery in ages so it was a big shock. Ill buy one when I get back from vacation and can accept paying that much. I remember getting red top optimas for 135 even though I never had one last more than a month. They are 180-200.

My dad is like a local celebrity at bi-mart. I think he is there almost daily. I wish we had a bi-mart here. I still have my card! They usually have good prices. I never win the lucky number Tuesdays. My dad checks for me each week.

^^ Thanks for your service.

I was also looking for batteries because of my 12v conversion on my 8N. Napa and O'really's were almost as bad - kind of a price shock for me too. I know cores are going up again
. I'll have to check out Bi-Mart later this week. It actually had a Bi-Mart battery in it, from 06 or 07 I think.

John, I use Optima (or orbital) batteries in the cars I don't want damaged from acid. The only rust on my '94 Impala is from the stinkin' battery. I have since switched it and both batteries in my truck to orbitals. My '55 will get one in the trunk! (Sounds bad but I'm re-locating it to a box in the trunk).

Well Bi-Mart let me down. All batteries were $74.99! Guess I'll go to Wally's tomorrow and see what they have. My friend who works for O'Reilley's said that the prices were going up every week, kind of like fuel prices. At least I got the alternator mounted to the tractor and re-wired the whole thing in prep for the new battery.

Yeah I checked bi-mart. 74 bucks was the cheapest. I wonder what is causing the prices to jump? Material costs and demand?

Speaking of tractors, if I get to Medford next week ill take pictures of my grandpa's tractor and engine collection. He has restored quite a few and they are pretty cool!

She said it was the lead that was causing the prices to jump.

Thanks for taking the pics if you can.

Yeah they're up to $74 from $64 when I got the battery for the Austin, but they only offer one battery; an 84 month. That's still less than a $1 a month for a battery. That's pretty much been the standard price lately at about $1-$1.50 a month.

Yes, still on active duty. That's why my projects aren't as far along as i would have liked.

I guess the demand for lead has greatly increased due to many countries needing more batteries. I will need another battery for my mach 1 as it exploded during a freeze in El Paso over a year ago.
