A friend of mine runs a '33 Willys on the street which has the longer style wheelie bars commonly used on most drag cars. I prefer the "below the bumper" style (Bill Jenkins style). I assume they do NOT work as effectively as the longer ones BUT they have the "old school look". Plus for me I feel they would be much safer on the street. IMO
I had wheelie bars on my Austin at one time, but for mostly street use they are a pain. If set up at proper height, any steep driveway will unload the rear tires, and make it difficult to get up the driveway. My home has a short uphill, and I always had to get a little run at it to ride over that part. I finally took them off.
