Welfare Check

Not a whole lot of posting going on, myself included, so I thought I'd do a welfare check. How are all my gasser/hot rod buddies doing?

Welfare check OK! Been overwhelmingly busy because I have kitchen renovation 3/4 done and arguing constantly about diamond pattern leather kitchen upholstery and racing stripes on the counter top and table. I’m trying to get nitrous for the new stove. Hilborn for the gas burner nozzles.
Seriously though it’s not only stressful but it’s mentally exhausting planning with different contractors to get the work done and not get ripped off. Code upgrades and such is a miserable experience with the town and filing permits. All just a money grab. So no work in the garage right now because it’s filled with temporary kitchen stuff. I’m thinking it’s gonna run into June. Ugggggh

Well I just got the '39 out from it's winter nap, and after a quick bath I drove it around all morning! Headed to a local cruise in after a bit of lunch that's right near my house! So a great day here!

Did a total underbelly wipe down on the 57’ all clean again, what a lot of road dust. Quick battery change, installed a diode to fix run on issue then ran to gas station for fill up ….now back to mowing the green monster my grass!

By the time I get to go for a ride I will need a safety inspection. Never ends
Car show was fun, but the change from 50's for highs to mid 80's was brutal! Just can't adjust as fast as the weather changes! But the '39 got a major trophy for best sounding car! They called it "ear candy"!

The trophy looks great Vall. Not sure our exhaust notes are ear candy though. I guess they are to us.

Not much here. I have the 38 in the trailer waiting for a final race tune up on Wednesday and have been busy working on the 64, wrapping up somethings.

I am patiently waiting for some incoming funds for the 48. finally finished the mini remodel of the kitchen and had a garage sale Saturday morning along with all the folks in the sub-division.
We had a nice day a few days ago, so I went out to the garage and checked on the '55. My wife has it completely surrounded by junk from her Moms house, so after clearing a path to the door, I opened it up and got it fired up. It still sounded great! Got my feet itching to go, but not going to happen till I figure out what to do with my Mother-in-laws 2000 Chevy Impala my wife inherited. It is all original and only has 35,XXX original miles on it. Once I get it stored/sold/whatever, then I can get the '55 out and warm it up. BUT, I did check out the truck and I had mice living in the trunk! I spent two hours cleaning their mess out! What do you guys use to keep them out of your rides? I am hoping the mess they made does not screw up the inside of the car, since I can't get inside right now. But, soon, real soon!

I asked this same question years ago of a local guy who has a large collection. He said he keeps his vehicles as unfriendly to mice or rodents as possible. When I asked what this meant he said he keeps hoods and trunk lids open, and no car covers. All they do is keep dust off, and give dark places for critters to hide and nest. So the only thing he keeps closed are doors and windows.
I keep both of my gassers the same way, and no issues. My attached garage has never had any mouse issue as it's well sealed, but my shop out back is a metal building, and easy for mice to get in. But they've never gotten into my cars. I make sure neither building has any food in them, and never leave any food wrappers, or food crumbs in the garbage cans either. Just nothing in either building that a mouse might be attracted to.

I've heard the dryer sheets, mothballs, and Irish Spring soap. But also heard guys say they still got mice if the cars were covered. I don't use any of them, and no mice either.
Well, I guess the same is true for my old 51. I had it open all winter. I also bought one of those bucket raps with a ramp up to the top and caught over 20 mice with it.

ive had great success with victor power kill and a snickers bar pressed in the bait hole. I always place 2 side by side just in case they are real hungry 🤤. Great traps and you can simply remove them once they are limp. The garage is a clean space, not much for clutter/ varmitt housing

That's a pretty hi tech trap Matt! Not sure I've ever seen one at local hardware stores here. I still have the old wooden Victors, but bait dries up before I ever see a mouse here.
They set easy and trip easier yet ….you won’t break out in a nervous sweat setting these.

I’ve struggled with the wooden ones for years, thread and peanut butter and still not good enough to catch em.

I bought a fair amount for the shelf just in case they change or stop selling them…..their that good!

I bought several traps that are real easy to set and caught about 6-8 mice, usually one or two a day. I must have got the ones that was causing all the trouble since I have not caught any this week. But the traps are still set! Thanks for all the tips guys!
