Moving the rear mount back to adjust the angle of the shackle will also give the kingpin more angle. Likely if it isn't moved back to around 90 degrees the engine weight will result in the shackle flipping over anyway. So moving it will increase kingpin angle again, and prevent it from flipping over.

for the shackle to flip over it would need to go forward ( i mounted shackles at rear )
a good 60 degrees. putting more weight on will move it even further rearward, maybe
even hitting frame. i need to make springs "stiffer" not neccessarily taller, so that they
dont flatten out-thus elongating and moving shackle rearward- as much.

Shackles don't need to be mounted forward to flip over. Once a shackle's spring end gets past 90 degrees to it's mounted end it can flip over that pivot point, and will indeed hit the frame. The next bump may be harsh enough to make the body rise, and pull it back. But it can indeed flip over regardless.

ah, i see what you mean--if it went so far as to "line up" the shackle with the
spring, it could indeed go over center and get stuck. lucky me, in this case
it would need to smash through 3"+ of frame to get to that point.

got it roughed in enough to put it back on the ground.
glad its just tacked for now, as it went from 10 degrees
static + caster, and just the weight of car without motor
moved shackle back from 90 degrees to 45 degress,
and caster from +10 to +8.

i may need to add a leaf or two in the front leaf packs
once motor & trans are in....

beem a minute, got laid up 30+ days in hospital with guillain-barre syndrome.
kinda like lupus except your body attacks nervous system. happened really
FAST too, wednesday night my feet felt "heavy" for lack of better description,
thursday morning when i woke up i knew i was in trouble, walking like i was
drunk and feet felt dead like wooden clubs.

mom drove me to ER, they admitted me and by 10pm i couldnt stand up or
walk, breathing and swallowing was weird, etc etc...

scary stuff. im out of hospital now, recovering at moms. using a walker
to get around. usually takes 18 months to 3 years for full recovery, but im way
ahead so far--just 11 days ago i stood up for first time with help.

got really lucky, 30% of people never recover-theyre partially or fully
paralyzed for life, sometimes the nerves dont regrow back. so hopefully
my recovery is whole and speedy, but ill take what i can get!

now about the steering on the 55....

Wow, just happened to be on the site and saw your post. I was "struck" with guillain-barre syndrome when I was 35. I was in the Kaiser hospital in Hollywood for over 2 weeks. You're right, it's a very scary experience. Don't know if you had the Covid shot but guillain-barre syndrome has been listed as a possible side effect. Check with your doctor about getting a flu shot in the future. When I was released from the hospital I was told not to get a flu shot because it could trigger another bout with guillain-barre syndrome and I wouldn't be as lucky the second time around.
While I was in the hospital Kaiser asked if they could use me as a case study for their Neurological department. I was wheeled into an amphitheater type room where the doctors and students asked me a zillion questions. They did a couple CAT scans, spinal tap, tested for heavy metals, other x-rays, a bunch of blood tests, tested my lung capacity every 6 hours and a bunch of other tests; wasn't fun. Now I'm battling with Kaiser about getting a medical exemption for the Covid shot. Good luck with your recovery. It took me about 3 months before I was 100% again.

That sounds like a tough thing to deal with. Hope you get through it ok. Life has its bumps and grinds. From what you’re describing you got what it takes to get well. Keep up the great work. Don’t rush and possibly relapse. The car will be there. take care of yourself. Get well quick.

thanks everybody, yeah im lucky that despite being 375 pounds
for my entire adult life (from like 13 till now, 50...) im actually
in good health. blood pressure this morning was 112/71,
resting heart rate 74, cholesteral 140, blood sugar was
4.9, etc... so im healing REALLY fast--just 13 days ago i stood
up for first time in 3 weeks, 10 days ago walked for first time,
last friday got out of hospital, yesterday went from walker to cane....

so fast the home care P/T worker came 2x since i been out and
today said shes amazed at how quick and it looks like she doesnt
need to come back already.

now if i can just get the neurologist to clear me. i got appointment
on december 1st....

doing REALLY good-- already kinda/sorta walking (mom says it looks like a drunk hobbling with sore feet...)
without walker or cane for short trips like bathroom or kitchen, and the clumsy/tingly 'wearing boxing gloves'
feeling in hands is like 25% of what it was even just a few days ago, so thats awesome. thanks for all the
prayers and well wishes, theyre working!

Congratulations on your speedy recovery. I hope you talk with you doctor about the danger of future immunizations, especially for the flu. As I said in my previous message when I was released from the hospital I was told not to get one. One other tip; if you ever need surgery be sure to tell the anesthesiologist about your history. Years after my bout with GB I needed surgery and when the anesthesiologist came in to talk with me and get my history he told me there was a huge concern about putting me under with a general anesthesia and suggested a spinal block instead.

still doing really good with recovery, but the "forced relaxation"
is making me crazy. been surfing the web all hours of the day
and night which is bad-- theres so many things i totally dont
need, but simply MUST have.....

like these magnetic door signs for my daily driver K5 blazer.
(like the stick on magnetic plumbers van signs...) the guy
was even able to flip or mirror image the funnycar silhouette
for one of the signs so when installed both point forward
instead of 1 forward and 1 backward....
