ok, more parts collected-- wife found a pair of 15x8.5 torque thrust II's for the rear, have a
57 t-bird 9" housing we are going to stuff under it. parts we already got- 454 block, steel crank,
7/16 rods, forged 10.5-1 pistons with moly rings, oval 'hi-perf-pass #390 heads, the
"portagee tunnelram" setup with 2 edelbrock 600's, geardrive, melling HV pump with
steel driveshaft, the rebuilt 1" mainshaft muncie 4spd, bellhousing, etc...

as stated the speeday axle is on its way, found a reversed strange engineering corvair box,
a spare steering column from a cosworth vega, and i should have enough scrap steel
laying around to do some crazy looking 4ft ladders.

im torn between radiusing the rear wells ( and welding a split tubing along the cut line to
finish it off) or lifting the car 2ft to clear the stock shorty rear well. tire clearance or rather
lack of will probably be the deciding factor......

very different build. I love it. sort of like a shoe box of a different kind. I would love to see that car with a 392 hemi. But I thoroughly understand the BBC.
Looking forward to seeing it come together.
great project.

trust me, if i had jay lenos money
id be shopping for a crossram 426"
hemi or a 499" indy headded mccandless
and a A-833.

but i already HAVE the 468" and muncie, so...

traditionally hotrodders cram whatever motor you
got--bigger the better-- into whatever car you
have, so thats what im gonna do.

Very cool car. Looks like it?s in great shape. Watching your build closely!

yes, we got really lucky with this one--bought from the
original owners son, she was a schoolteacher and worked
less than a mile away from where they lived.

this car has 11,692 original miles and except for the master cylinder
and tires was all original. it sat in a garage for the last 28+years.....

im hoping some of the stock take-off parts will sell for decent money
to a restorer or something, apparently the unbroken horn ring is
as rare as hens teeth and almost $1000 at the current going rate.
and i have it PLUS a perfect steering wheel with the 3D emblem
of a pirate ship, no cracks or anything....

its also got the 1st year 260 V8 single shaft 'polyspherical hemi',
a powerflite 2spd and weird 1 year only 'wand' shifter in the dashboard.
(56 went to pushbutton trans controls) and everything is dang near
perfect shape.

that would be good if some parts did sell, to help finance
the build quicker.

surprising enough i (like a few of you im sure!) had those 15x4
ansens in the closet for almost 30 years just waiting for the right
car to come along. and the wife found some 15x8.5 torque thrust II's
for the rear already...perfecto !

Hi, looking forward to your build. I have a 55 Plymouth Plaza that I am going a little different direction on. There is a site called Forwardlook that is all about the 55 and up Mopars. The chrome and stainless is hard to find, so if you part that out you should do ok. Patch panels are difficult to locate, so am glad your car is solid. Have fun.

I can’t write the check and pretend it does not hurt. I have to farm out stuff I can not do. Of course, working to get something for less money is part of the fun. Have fun with your car and enjoy don't forget I love pictures. It won't be my last I will be Watching!!!!!!!!!!

thanks, but.... as far as forward look....

yeah.... i stay away from that site. reason being that
the forward look guys are a bunch of over opinionated,
self rightious stuck-up @ssh*les. my very first post was met
with nothing but "you need to restore it or sell it to someone
who appreciates virgil exners design, youre not a real car guy
because no real car guy would dessicrate such a rare car, if
youre going to modify it youre satan incarnate, the world needs
less idiots like you destroying OUR precious resources, etc"....

my response was-
1) to quote lil john buttera ( wanna argue with
THAT guys credentials?)
anyone can restore a car, takes a real man to cut one up.

2) rod sabury turned his topflite bloomington gold winner 63
split window vette into a crazy 8 second prostreeter. when asked why,
he simply said, "because i CAN"....

3) different strokes for different folks. you go do what you want
with your car and your money. this one is MY car and MY money,
therefor i get to do what *I* want. they dont hafta like it !

F8ck those idiots. i got several PM's from guys (after they ripped
on me like that--imagine the nerve!) asking for parts.

my response was that after treating me like that, you REALLY
think im going to do anything to help you? id rather pile my
take-offs in the middle of the garage and light em on fricken FIRE
first now, i wont sell anything to anyone off that site. id rather
put it in the trash.

youde think people so rabid about 'preserving' one of these would
have jumped all over the chance to procure some original, darn
near perfect low mileage parts in their quest, BEFORE opening mouth
and inserting foot, but nope.

the fact that they didnt just shows how dumb and [email protected] they are.

my wife says i should post what im doing just to piss em off even more
but i say the hell with them. aint worth the sweat off my nuts.

this place here, however--i LOVE. these are my kinda people.
even if they think im crazy, every response has been encouraging.
may not be their cup of tea, but they "get it". and nobody here
has insulted me in their first response, so the attitude difference
is refreshing.

good luck with the forward look/backwards acting guys, i personally would stay away from
people like that no matter what. but thats just me....

Nope, I totally agree. I visit some sites trying to gather information and I get so PO'd at their comments I just leave. I have been here for some time now, we may not all agree with someones build, but we dont bad mouth people and are pretty supportive. One of the few sites I have found where you dont get roasted for saying something stupid (I do it all the time).

EXACTLY.

on another note.................

D*MMIT..............

in the ever present '2 steps forward/3 steps back'
whirlwind that seems to run my life (and many of yours
too, im sure !) i just put a stop payment against a
charge for $325 from "moores auto salvage" in rapid
city south dakota.

'marc' assured me he had all the pieces to convert our
55 belvedere from auto to manual trans, pedals and
linkages and such.

he had no problem charging me on the spot for said pieces,
the full $325 amount. (OUCH...) but now, 22 days later...

hes ducking calls. wont return messages. wont answer emails.
he claimed the parts would ship the following mondy. then wednesday.
then friday. then oops it didnt go out friday, monday. oh sorry monday
was a holiday, ill send em out tomorrow and call or email you with
a tracking number.....

then he went off the radar completely. left 8+messages on machine over
the last week, no returned calls. anytime i call they no answer. sent
several emails asking what was up, no reply. sent my number (you know, to
leave a callback number press 5 now...) at least a dozen times, nothing. NOTHING.

again, it didnt take 22 seconds to charge me for these parts, so why
after 22 days am i sitting here with my thumb in my nose with NO PARTS,
no callbacks, no response, no apologies, NOTHING.

im certain the visa company
will get the money back, what pisses me off is the 22 days i fricken
WASTED waiting for stuff that he either dont have or never intended
to sell me. why do people play stupid games like that?

and why, if theres a legit reason, would he be avoiding me? i mean,
if something LEGIT was the problem why wouldnt he just say hey man, sorry,
had XXXXXXXXXXX happen so its gonna be another day or two.....?

frick, of all my pet peeves perhaps #1 is- "DONT LEAVE ME HANGING".

anyway, let this be a lesson--dont do business with moores auto salvage in SD.

now i gotta find another pedal set IF one exists, or rig up something else.
what a F*CKER.

Yeah, it's a bitch when you deal with pricks like that who are also to far away to go pay a visit to. I'm sure you're probably well aware of the hydraulic clutch and pedal kits that are available for about half what you paid unless you're dead set on a stock pedal and linkage assembly. Magenta Machine Fashion accessory Auto part Font
Since you're going to be doing a bunch of fabrication anyway making a mounting bracket for the slave cylinder would be pretty straight forward as well as any fabrication to mount the swing type pedal assembly. Just one option to think about.
I too am looking forward to following your build.

Sorry to hear that, I had some issues with getting the wrong parts from them and having to take photos to prove a 37 hood will not fit a 38 Plymouth. So, if you get stiffed for the pedals and stuff, I am pulling the clutch pedal and stuff out of the Plaza, might make a trade with you it you like. IM me if interested.

Thanks for the heads up on Moore's! Haven't done business with them, but wont now either! Sounds like maybe Mike can help you out with his leftovers though! Win-win!

i *might* have scored big today, gotta wait and see if amazon
ships it-- they claim the order has been processed, so we shall
see i guess...

the patriot fenderwell exit 2" primary 3.5" collector 55-57 chevy
header for 396-454 was $80.89....im thinking it was a misprint,
after i immediately ordered it ( $80 !!! ), they sent the order confirmation.

a check back a couple hours later shows the same part # as $237+....
but they havent rescinded the charge...yet....

heres hoping someone did an "oops" and forgot to put the 2 in front of the
80, and amazon said crepe its false advertising if we dont give it to him
for what we charged him for. normally i wouldnt be gleefull about it, but
on this project im going to have to beg/borrow/steal anything i can, hah hah.....

heres the order confirmation with the part #....got my fingers crossed !!!

Well that would be the deal of the century if they come through on it! I gave $200 for my set and was thrilled at the price. Sometimes I've looked at stuff on Amazon and seen a pretty good price, but not purchased. I saved the link and when I went back later in the day to purchase it the price was higher! Not sure how that works, but it's happened more than once to me.

well, a whole day later and they havent rescinded the charges or said anything--
maybe ill get lucky, and hopefully its what the item description is too, hah hah.
thats always fun when something is mislisted--you order, say, a set of fenderwell
exit headers for 55-57 chevy with big block, and they send you a 7 piece tupperware
salad serving set or something. yes, it does happen sometimes. ask me how i know.
