Just got the MG weighed today. I went to the local scrap yard. I got the weight ticket and couldn’t believe my eyes. It said 2500 lbs on the money. I said are you sure about this cause the original weight is 1500? He stepped on the scale and it went to 2700 like that makes it accurate. Rolling my eyes. Anyway I couldn’t prove it wrong and thinking a small Chevy motor, turbo 350, 10 bolt rear upgrade and all that steel tube and roll bar and don’t forget welding wire could weigh up to a 1000 lbs more than original.

Does seem odd, especially considering you'd subtract the drivetrain it used to have from the 1500 lbs. first. That would make the extra 1000 a lot more than 1000 lbs. I think the engine is about 600 lbs, and maybe slightly more with the tunnel ram. Trans is about 140 lbs. with fluids. Rear axle probably about 175 lbs. I'd guess the stock engine, trans, rear axle might weigh 350-400 lbs.? Which would surely be more than the rollbar and I beam axle, so still the 2500 does seem too high?
The curb weight of a MG Midget is 1600+ I think? I think maybe checking another scale is in order.

I may recheck that but it’s a shame I had to pay10 bucks for that weigh in. I may have to find someone else available.
Vall your first thought is the same as mine.

I did a metal frame and all add ons list with estimated weight plus figures and it came out to 2740. So the 2500 would be real world figure. I was generous with the amounts to see how close it would come. I was surprised To see the 2700. There is a lot of frame work On that car.

i removed eng, trans, rear, front susp, =500 lbs. base weight 1000lbs.
added engine, trans, rear, 900lbs.
rectangle tube frame 3 8ft 2x4 steel tube plus rear crossmembers and floor app 300lbs
Firewall and frame 50+
black pipe skeleton for tilt nose 50lbs
i beam axle with leafs 120lbs
rotors calipers 50 lbs
seats with 1/8” plate 50+
roll bar hoop plates and support bars 80+
tires and rims upgrade 50 lbs.
total around 1600lbs
add base start of 1000lbs comes close to 2650
these numbers are close guestimate.

Austin and the '39 to a local scale and see what they weigh. There's one about 13 miles away that's closed evenings, but they leave the scale turned on and you can weigh for free.

Thats not all that heavy compaired to alot of cars, but seems heavy for a mg lol. What kind of power is it making you think?
If it made 400 I would be thrilled. Can’t be more than that.

Nice im sure she scoots along just fine at 2500lbs lol. Might be a good thing its not any lighter but i guess theres no fun in that
I’ve held it out a little but I back off cause I swear it’s getting light up front. Might go bad real quick if that happens.

It's that straight-axle weight transfer, right? :)

Might be that Mike but it could also be I’m accelerating in a coffin size gasser on a wing and a prayer. 😂
