Had 5 new members sign up yesterday, and I found their accounts waiting in the "approval que" this morning. I thought what a nice day to have 5 people all join in one day! Then I searched their IP addresses and all were from the same town in Russia!
So my excitement of new members signing up turned to a permanent banning session. Usually I get a couple per week, not 5 in one day! Looks like somebody thinks quantity will get them overlooked.

Mass as in all in one day, with different names, but same IP address. I almost left the first one alone as I figured an International member might be fun. But seeing 4 others told me something was amiss.
Just banned another seconds ago from the same IP address, so they're still trying.

They can't until I approve them Steve. They simply signup, and are put in my approval que if their IP address is from a known suspect area. IP addresses that have no history of spam, or member being previously banned get automatic approval. Others have to wait until an administrator approves them, or a 30 day period passes with no action from an admin.
I have had some stupid enough to put all sorts of spam in their profile, which makes it much easier to just ban them without checking their IP addresses.

I would have never thought about Russians - and their motive for doing this?
