Launch Photo

This was in October, Famoso Raceway, Bakersfield CA. I like this photo because you can see the tires begin to wrinkle while the yellow lights are still on. The R/T was .022 with E/T of 11.736. Lost to Mustang (FORD!!!) by 1/2 fender. The best E/T so far with my 55 is 11.516 and best top speed of 118.519. I had a hard time breaking through the 12 second barrier at first. But really saw improvement with 4:56 gear and a looser torque converter. That got the 60 foot times much better, and helped overall. Now that the car runs as planned, I am finishing the interior, and window/vent wings. Might add a little weight, but I only race this car for fun. And what fun!!

Nice 55!
Great shot at launch.
I can see you have 3 lit yellow bulbs
so I guess ya got to go.
The photographer deserves the credit for that shot. Fantastic! Keep 'em coming.

Later,

Great looking picture you have of it. Running a small block or big block?

Jon
nice 55. primer forever.

Ditto...............
That is an Awesome Photo !
It's a big block, 454 with 850 Holley. No nitrous, just motor. Power Glide with 4500 stall, and Ford Nine rear, 4:56 gear.
I love the '55's and that is a great pic of yours leaving the line. My wife got a pic of our old pickup leaving the line, much like yours (except, of course, an old pickup is way short on the "cool" meter than a nicely done '55). The timing on your shot is outstanding with all the yellows on and the rear tires wrinkled. My pic is just an instant later - you can just see the green in the corner of the windshield. It is running well beyond our expectations for a 6 cylinder pickup - that run was an 11.62 at 114.9 mph. It seems to plant and go - pretty consistent 1.50's for 60' times.
Anyway, love your '55!

Farm Truck, what did you do on your 6 cylinder to be able to get your wheels up and the time and speed that you did?
dadmichael, it is a 292 truck 6 cylinder bored 60 over. It has about 12 to 1 compression, an aluminum 12 port head from Mike Kirby at Sissell's Automotive, Hilborn mechanical fuel injection, a Crower roller cam (don't remember exact specs - around 700 lift) and MSD ignition. The chassis is original that we boxed and reinforced, a Heidt's front end kit was used and a Ford 9" with 4.86 gears.

The rear suspension is just ladder bars with coil over shocks - but we must have found a good combination because it just seems to work! Oh, and the trans is a Jerico 4 speed - love grabb'n gears!

Thanks for asking
Ron

Sorry for the inactivity - I have been out of touch for a while.

I shift the truck at 6800 - 7000 rpm and it is turning about 6500 through the traps.
Great pic of the 55... great pic too Farm Truck!

I LOVE tilt front ends, radiused rear fenders, primered (flat) paint jobs...... looks like the picture was taken in Southern California..... you've done a great job over there in New Zealand!!!!!
