If you were close, I'd come over and kick you! :D What is the issue that is holding you up? When I get like that it because one of the next things to do is either real expensive, or I'm not comfortable with how it will turn out.

Get it running and drive it around - you'll be in love again.

I haven't been able to work on my '55 in a very long time. Another project has priority and I'm busy at work. Every once in a while I sneak in a few minutes here or there... mainly collecting the final pieces.

Start a thread on what you are doing, or going to do with it so we can all cheer you on! Post a few pictures. I'm sure we can help you along...

See if this comes thru. It might help a little.

Go on U-tube and start looking for Gasser vids. They get me going everytime. No not sex porn, car porn videos--sheesh! Mark L
Gary, by the pix of your car I've seen, there's not THAT much left to do before you can drive it! Last I knew, you ditched the straight axle and was going back to stock front suspension. Is this still the plan? Also, did you install that interior yet? I'd like to see pix of that when you do.
I agree; get it driving so you can enjoy it, then you'll get back in the mood to do other things to it. The longer you stay away from it, the more you lose interest. I know, because I've got one in the garage that's done and I've driven it once this summer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-YRsvkRHqsg That one works for me. I get wore the hell out too sometimes. I tell myself I'm collecting parts, but really have everything I need. Usually when I do get offa my can and get back to work, I am hating myself for all the time I've wasted. I say I'm never going to sell this one, so I have to finish it. Now I gotta head to the shop, I don't want to be a hypocrite!!
OK at least you got my blood boiling. Did you see this one?

I've got ALL the plumbing to do, (gas, water, electric), and a large part of me wants to blow the car apart and do a rotissery to it..........the "other" part of me wants to DRIVE the darn thing.
And, the straight axle thing. I bought a '57 p/u 4" dropped axle from a guy over at trifive, with mono springs. I put that stuff under the truck and it sit WAY TOO LOW. So the mono's and stock axle is the combo I'm gonna use on the truck. That leaves me with a 4" axle and stock truck springs. Yup, all that might go under the '56 (again). CURRENTLY, the '56 is in the driveway in front of the house covered up, while i finish up the '57 3100 for my wife. She's kept me busy with being her laborer for her new gardening business, (between my back "events" !!). Anyway. Oh, yeah, under the car right now IS the stock type front suspension, (C2-3 Corvette spindles/brakes), and I've got a fiberglass front clip for it now also. So after the truck is done I've got some things to think about !!!!

Gary we have all been there, don`t dump it you`ll regret it, I dumped a black dodge many years ago after it was done, big mistake I think about every day to this day, and that was in `76, `67 doge dart 440/727/391 gears 12.50`s in street tires, my coupe now I have just as much fun with, still needs a lot, but I drive it, it keeps me going.... I'm actually thinking about selling my '71 427 Camaro after 38 yrs. It's done, and nothing left I could do at this point, but I'm itching for an older project and the Camaro is just gathering dust in the garage since I seem to drive the gasser all the time.
wanna trade ?
wanna trade ?
Got a couple ahead of you. Oldest son says I have to give him a shot at buying it. :)
ok, so I'm still spending money on the car !! LOL. I've been at a three day swap meet this weekend, buying/selling. found some chrome bumpers for the wife's '57 3100, and bought this for the '56 maybe, C26 edelbrock and a pair of Carter carbs (real ones, NOT edelbrocks), Strip kits, airfilter, linkage. All used OLD stuff to keep the build period correct.

That would look great on the '56! Probably run good too once you get it tuned to your engine.
Thought your car was getting a blower?
Thought your car was getting a blower?
that could be part of my lethergy, I don't know what i want to do.
6-71 (weiand intake Delta drive 2X4 holleys )
Z28 Xram (2X4 holleys)
TR1 edelbrock tunnel ram (the old shoebox lookin' thing)
the C26 (2X4 Carters)
C4B edelbrock (edelbrock's first attempt at a good 1x4)

I know, I've shot myself in the foot, I've given myself too many choices..........

Oh yeah, I got a scattershield also, so i might go with a Muncie instead of the T2004r or T400 or powerglide.
I guess it's time to start flipping a coin and makin' descisions.

One word. BLOWER---nuff said, 8^) I originally planned a TH400 or a 4L80 automatic but now I'm diggin up an old 3 speed trans that Ford/Dearborn made for GM as a heavy duty trans for the big block GM BOP cars. I believe Chevy stayed with the weaker Muncie 3 speeds. It is the toploader 3 speed but it uses the GM input shaft. They are really strong and with the turbo the wider 3 speed gear ratios will still put strain on the turbos to make them work. Got one lined up, waiting for the owner to call back and accept. Mark L

Wow Gary, Do you have all of those? When you decide on one, you'll have to have a garage sale so we can chew up what you have left. All of the above would be cool options. The only one I'd maybe stay clear of is the TR1. I was looking into getting one and got lots of bad feedback on it. Kinda like the Edlebrock SP2P, the later models were better. There's nothing like the blower whine...

Glad you found a scattershield, that's what is holding me up on my muncie m20. I was going with a 4l60 at first but really struggled with what I was trying to do with this build. I have comfy cars with A/C and power everything that get great fuel economy. So I decided that this car didn't have to be a daily driver, it was for the pure joy of getting in it when I want a pick-me-up and banging gears in a gnarly car fits the bill. I used to do that with this car when it was on the road. I'd go for a ride out in the country with no particular destination in mind - just a drive. Always puts a smile on my face.

Good luck with what you choose.

Mike
