Welcome 66stratgasser... love the name! Mark will love having another Chief on the forum. Of course you know we all love pictures. Looks like a good car to do.

I found this one on the web to see what they even looked like.

Hey hey hey Stratogasser. Great car to build. Man after my own heart. Although I'm sure you will be running all chevy drivetrain since that is what Canadian Pontiacs ran. Not sure how familiar you are with the differences in the USA versus the Canadian versions of Pontiacs but they are pretty much different cars. Canada did not like the Wide Track of the USA Pontiacs so GM used Chevy frames and drivetrains under the Pontiac wider bodies. That's why the Canadian Pontiacs look kind of different with the wheel tread a little narrower on the wider bodies. Just not sure when that stopped. But it gives a little wider wheel area for wider tires. Some used shorter front fenders too because of the shorter Chevy wheelbase. As you can see I'm building a'63 Pontiac Catalina gasser. I look forward to watching your build and seeing how you build it. Welcome here and I'm glad you found us. Mark L

I also love the 2 dr sedans starting in '65 on up. My first Pontiac was a '64 Catalina 2dr sedan ex-police captains car from Brookfield WI. 2 barrel 389 with three on the tree and taxi cab interior and still had the spot ligh ton the front post. The earlier 2 dr sedans had more of an upright angular roof line so in '65 they made it a little bit softer, smoother. I like that better. Looking at your '66 I can see how Chevy frame changes the dimensions of the Canadian Pontiac versus the USA version. Look at your frontal view, the wheel base is shorter on the Canadian version so they moved the front wheels back towards the firewall and lengthen the sheet metal distance from the front of the front wheelwell to the head lights. The USA version is probably 3 inches shorter. Even the bumper goes back farther so I bet they would not interchange. And the rear wheel well is farther forward I think or the measurement from the rear wheel well to the back of the door is shortened. I also believe the front wheel well shape is different. If I'm right then the Canadian version will be lighter too. Would love to see an example of each side by side. Mark L
