New to the site, thanks Chuck, Old timer, Leeper for putting me on to this. I, like others are aging war babies who used to walk in a car dealership and buy a super stocker, only if Dad would cosign. We used to have a super 1/8 mile strip here in Peoria Il who got to see some of the legends of racing. I had a slick almost new 59 black chevy, small block but ran very well for what it had. Of course uncle sam got his chunk of my time but soon fell back into the groove of draging. Happy days had nothing on us midwestern boys. We had a Steak N Shake where many of then D gassers, 1960 era, would drive around looking for races. Most of the races were on back roads and really cool. Of course later in the decade, the big block Hemis, Fords and Chevys made the street scene and it was easier to buy a pro stock than try to build one. I miss the street scene as it was then, no problems, just fun and drag racing, way life should be lived. Anyway, glad to be here, will post some pics later of cars from the era.
