OH, now that would make a great Gasser. Being a Pontiac nut I'd love to do that. I had a '57 Pontiac back in 1973-74 I found in a barn. But I had just bought a new '72 Trans Am and was sticking money into that to make it fast. Very limited on money back in those years so I ended up selling it to twin brothers across the street from me.

The PINK Pontiac had no rust for WI and a bent lower front pass fender. I did get it all sanded down and painted flat black and tilted the front end (like I did with my '63). But then sold it to th eneightbot kids. You can see the Pink Pontiac. Then the side pic is taken from the neighbors house looking across at my house trailer at the '63 I had back then. Immediately to the right you can see the front end of the '57 after it moved across the street.
That is one car I seriously would love to have back. Maybe someday, who knows. Mark L

Looks like a '55 sedan, and in gorgeous condition! Definitely make a great gasser!

I had a buddy who let me use his '57 Poncho when I needed a car .....347ci with 4 barrel - It was converted to a standard shift - 3 on-the-floor with a HURST Syncho-Loc shifter - BIG Chrome SW tach mounted on the dash - exhaust had two different kinds of glasspacs which gave it a VERY UNIQUE (and loud) sound especially when shifting gears.
I was a VERY HEAVY car - the front bumper & Grille weighed more than most import cars.... HA!!!!

That '55 would be an easy conversion... starting with a 'finished' car would make the job quicker. Put in a super-duty with 3x2's and a stick. Oh yeah!
Mark, when I was a kid, my older sister's best friend got her mom's '57 Chieftan - white two-door ht - and that was the neighborhood kid's transportation. What a cool car. The thing I remember is that the reverse was all the way down - like an early power glide. The other cool thing was that her grandmother was the actress that played the mother on Bewitched - Agnes Moorehead! We all thought that was soooo cool cuz we all watched the show, of course. It was the mid '70s.

Nice "catch" Gary. Guess it's because you are a '56-guy!!!!!!
To be honest with you I have always referred to a '55 or 56 Chevy as a '55. Just a lazy habit. Being a Chevy guy I think that "bad habit" is TOTALLY inexcusable. Plus as VERY MUCH as I LOVE the early "shoebox Chevys" you would think I would know better by now (as I hear the Beatles sing the tune.... "when I'm 64") HA!!!!
Another one that was even WORSE was for ME ---67-68 Camaros ....... Especially when you consider I owned a '67 SS350 for over 7 years) and these are even more distinguishable than many models...... with the "68 NOT having vent windows.
BTW Gary ...... I LOVE what you are doing with your '55...... Haaaaaa L O L!!!!!!

Why? Because I thought a '56 had a straight grille bar, and a '55 has a bar that drops slightly, like the car pictured. What makes it a '56 to you?
Edit: I think you're correct! I didn't notice the spear shaped bulge in line with the tailights. That would indicate it's a 1956.

The story on the '57 I had was, I was riding around the back roads looking for a car. I saw just the front sticking out of a barn door. So I stopped to ask about it. This was 1973. He had stored it since 1970. He bought it for his wife to use to drive the 4 miles into town for work. She was riding with a neighbor everytime but needed to get her own car for the independence. He said while he was ctually buying and picking up the car his wife was coming home with the neighbor when they got into an accident. The neighbor was killed and his wife was paralized. So he parked the car. He had only pulled the car out for a couple of minutes to get something from behind it when I saw it. He sold it to me for a very low price and I brought it home. The engine had a broken valve spring that would allow the engine to run fine until about 2500 rpm and then start missing. But I never did get it licensed or on the road. I took off the front bumpers and tilted the front end when a '63 Catalina came up that I had looked at for years. It had been a local race car and they had grenaded the engine. So I got it with 2 421 blocks and cranks and a running 389 from somewhere in the car to move it around.
I would love to have the '57 back. It was rust free and for Wisconsin that was highly unusual. As you can see the right front fender was krinkled down after the wheel well but otherwise in great condition. I sold it to the twin 16 year old kids across the street. Never found out what happened to it after that. I moved to another town and never saw them again. Man, the cars we let get away!!!
Just a side note. Did you see the Dodge in the top picture?? I blew his door off with my Blue TA in the pic. HEH! He happened to get lined up next to me one night at grudge race night. He was thru the lights before I hit third gear. But at least I beat his door to the traps. It came off about half track and I ran under it as it flew up and fluttered down. I saw it fly up but it went so high that I could not see it but I did see it come down behind me in my mirror. I told everyone that once I got traction I opened the 4 barrel and it sucked the door off. For some reason no one believed me???? Mark L

Did you duck???? Man that could have been ugly if it came off lower & hit your car. How did it come off???? Was it a steel or fiberglass door????
