Hi guys, I am going to stop the wagon thread I had sine I am going to start a new gasser build. This Friday I am going to be picking up a 1949 chevy 3100 frame. It still has the motor in it but I will sell that for cheap to recoup some money. I am also going to try and be more detailed in my build thread. so, here is the frame I am picking up-

Since it's already got an axle hung that saves you some time. I'm looking forward to watching this build come together.

That is exactly why I chose a truck! ;)

Will likely require new springs to get the gasser stance, but at least everything is there for mounts. Sometimes building piece by piece can end up costing a lot more than buying something fairly complete to start. But it allow the build to be done a little at a time.

This is the same way my 51 started. I anticipate it being slower and possibly more money, but there is a lot of stiff to do with that frame while I scrounge for parts. Damn, I just wish I won the lottery. I could pay someone to build it for me!

Have you tried getting the Chevy 6 started yet? With a battery, a gas can, and some wiring you might get it fired, just to run a minute or even a few seconds. It will be easier to sell, and get better money if it runs, and sitting in the frame makes a good engine stand to play with it.

Good idea! I am picking up the frame tomorrow and have all weekend to play with the motor.

any thoughts on a caddy 472 engine? Looking at intakes and such it is pretty expensive....

Forget it! I just saw some other prices. Now maybe if I win the lottery.....

Only way I'd run a Caddy engine is if it was a done engine, ready to drop in. Speed parts for Caddy's are a bit nuts in price. But those big 472 and 500 Caddy engines have good power, and lots of torque as is. I prefer a BBC 454 for cheap parts, and more bang for your buck.
One could save the weight of the bbc and build a sbc 396-427 variant. That is going to be a tire incinerator😎 regardless it wil make a statement!

Pretty cool Dave glad to see you started something else. It’ll be fun watching you build it as far as the motor goes good idea Vall had about starting it and getting it running. I did that with my MG and I had a video posted for someone to see online and they came from Massachusetts to buy it so the video is worth it’s weight in gold.

Well, I sold the frame and motor for 50 more bucks than I paid. I decided to go after a truck a guy has in his front yard less than a mile from me. it is missing the bed, but you can find those all over here in Missoury. looks to be in better shape too. Also looking at a 454 complete for 500 bucks this weekend.

well, sold the frame and motor yesterday. And I drove by the house about a mile away that has a complete truck minus the bed. Asked if it was for sale and he said 1000 and its yours! I will be the 3rd owner. Old farm truck from Pennsylvania with something like 57K on the odometer. some rust on cab, but not bad. Pics coming soon! it's a one ton with the heavy-duty drivetrain.

Wow congrats Dave.
Saw this Dave. I thought of you.
Those old Stude pickups are tough to find and I think they're really cool looking. If that one isn't rusted out too badly it's a great price for a complete truck!
I thought about a stude, but I was not sure about the availability of parts. These 47-54 Chevy's have parts all over the place.

If it was a restoration I'd be concerned about the Stude also. But since it's a hotrod, and the Stude looks pretty complete, the only thing would be headlight rings. Looks like the rest is there.
