what chevy small block came with only two frezze plugs on each side? thats whats in my 56 rite now. no #'s on the pad..

All Chevy small blocks have 2 freeze plugs per side except the 400 small block made from 1970-early 74 which had 3 per side. The later 400's had a boss cast for the 3rd. plug but wasn't used. Hope this helps. Brian

No #'s on the pad should indicate a "replacement" block.
Does it have a small or large ballancer?
Does it have pcv fitting next to distributor?
Driver side or passenger side dipstick?

These are easy and quick things to look for that will get you a ballpark idea of what smallblock you have. Hope this helps.

i was told the motor was decked? no #'s on the pad. big balancer. dipstick on drivers side. no pcv. no macthing valve covers. but the heads r fueli...

Casting number from the back of the block above the driverside bell housing area will tell what it can be and what it isn't......
