interesting tidbit i thought i would pass along. i bought a 55 ford truck for the title. truck is pretty much junk but had a blue title with it. title matches the data plate but the front frame is cut off for a clip. so no frame vin .

now the good part. i went to transfer the title only to find out it had current plates and a bonded title was done in 2016 making my title that was issued in 1997 useless . the gal at dmv told me that many titles sold online or that came with an old car or truck may be useless. especially now that texas like many other states let you keep the original title when you transfer it. she said if the title is not in the sellers name or pretty current chances are you may be screwed. her advice is to run a vin check before buying. in 50 years of doing these old cars i never run into this .

If you need a free and clear title for a car, use the Vermont trick. I used it to title my 53 panhead I bout 10 years ago. Here is a link that explains it all- How To Use The Vermont Title Loophole To Get A Vehicle Title – CarTitles.com

Long story short- for minimal amount of money, you get a free and clear vermont title and plates for your vehicle that you can take to your states DMV and title in that state. Vermont just wants the revenue.
