I typically do not, if the crank was bad enough to need .001 bearings I normally just have it turned 10/10. They normally do not remove much metal when they polish it, I would mic it and see where it stands against factory specs. If it is close to factory reading I would just run std bearings. If it is smaller than the factory reading you may need +.001 bearings. The best way is to just check it with plasigauge and see what your readings are, if you are around .002 or so you should be fine. If you are more than .003 you would probably need the thicker bearings. Hope this helps.

If you had to polish it,,,, mic it at 4 positions (egg shape),,,, one and a half thousands I believe is standard for most small and big block domestic engines (non ACL bearing).... and use a high volume pump not a high pressure pump...are the oil holes chamfered ???
