Thanks Rich you are right on target. I actually thought it would be neat to build an SS wagon, build it enough to race but also tow my Gasser to the strip. Run the gasser then hop into the wagon and run that. Only one problem-----MONEY---heh. Never enough of that. I was also think ing of finding a big Pontiac wagon, overhauling the 6.5 turbo diesel in my truck and dropping that and the 4L80 into the wagon. Just to tow the Gasser. Or one of the late model diesels with all the aftermarket supoort they have now. 500 hp but 1300 ft pounds torque is not that hard to do now a days. And in a light (relatively speaking) wagon versus the truck it might get 25 MPH?? Thanks for the link. It gets my blood flowing. Mark L

The '61 was the first body style of Pontiac after the mid 50's that I really loved! Lots of great Pontiac designs from the 60's starting with the '61 up to the '65. After that they started to get more rounded, and I prefer the squarish shapes on the earlier 60's.

My parents owned a '61 Star Chief they traded a '55 Pontiac Hardtop in on. I learned to drive in the '61 as did all of my older sisters. We took many vacations in the '61 to see relatives in Virginia, to D.C. twice, and Baltimore, MD at least twice to see relatives.

My mother passed mail as a rural carrier for years in the car, and sold the '61 to a girl who worked for her in about 1975/76. This girl's boyfriend blew the engine up and left the car along the road in West Virginia.
