As I was comming home from work today (yes even on Sunday they get me) saw for the second time a `55 post on a trailer near my home on the road being built as a gasser, in primer, axle under the front, rear fenders radiused, no windows yet, no front sheet metal either, next time I `m gonna chase him down.....;)

I find people very open to talking cars if I'm driving mine, but a bit hesitant if you just approach them. Was out working on my Austin in the driveway yesterday and had four different guys drive by and stop to either want to look it over or take pics. After a bit I started to feel a bit uneasy about it. Had my '55 gasser stolen back in the 70's because I was so willing to show it to anyone that stopped by and asked.
I finally moved the Austin back into the backyard shop as I just felt uncomfortable with too many prying eyes.
Hopefully the guy wont be too put off by your approach if you do it the right way.

I got my '55 in a similar way. I live in the country, and I could see the tail end in a barn about a half a mile from my house. After a couple years of it not moving I decided to inquire and the rest is history.

Just a shame what 1946austin is talking about. Thieves suck!

Let us know how it goes. Maybe snap a shot if he's cool about it.

Later,

Mike

We had a big hail storm that did a lot of damage to the house. We've had insurance and home repair people crawling all over the house for the last 6 months and I always get uneasy when they see the Catalina. I love to show it off but then reality sets in and you start seeing potential theives in everybody. I started stacking metal plating at the side door so any type of forced entry would cause it all to fall and make a big racket. Hopefull it will scare them off at least. And if not then it's my turn. 8^) Mark L

I may be a bit paranoid after having 3 different cars and a motorcycle stolen over the years, so don't let my paranoia ruin it for everyone. I've got alarms on everything including all the cars, my motorcycle, and the house.

Rich,
Like Austin said, if you're in your car it makes the initial meeting alot easier. He'll be as eager to check your car out as you are his. And don't forget to tell him about this site. Maybe you can recruit a new member.

All the local car shows are starting up, I`ll start carrying a camera, see what builds I can find in the way of gassser style, it seems that when the gasser style went out in the early `70s I kinda lost interest in drag racing, everything kinda rekindled when I picked up the `37... I`ve seen this morris (another morris ) on craigslist now for about 6 months off and on for a grand, complete, thats really tempting me, but will have to convince the boss I need another project, currently have my ~64 truck, the `37, `68 dodge dart, and `69 RS/SS....not to mention her Jeep..it will be a hard sell.LOL

I did a search on the basics (specs ) wheel base is 80 inches, track width and overall width is 60, weight is 1,700 lbs,,,,,it would blow away in a mild breeze, now with maybe a high winding sm blk, with a muncie, and a nine inch,

This one here is for sale locally......I`m considering it:rolleyes: Yea....she`s gonna kill me..

'Chuck Morris'! That is a hoot. I'd drive it. 80"! You could turn around inside a garage!

The problem is project creep. I once said that you can't have too many projects... I too am working on 5 at the same time. It's expensive and seems like nothing ever gets finished. Be careful, that's my advice.

If I had the money I'd buy it :D
