55 Chevy dash removal

Anybody removed the dash from a 55 Chevy? How do you get it out? I've removed every screw, clip, bracket i can find and it's still stuck to the car. Could it be spot welded to the upper firewall area or maybe just stuck there with seam sealer? The windshield is coming out this afternoon and maybe with it out of the way i'll see what's holding the dash in place.
Thanks.

You need to remove the windshield, and drill out the spot welds that attach the dash to the firewall, then it should come right out.
Yup never understood the theory of bolting a dash in and welding it ! ! If they were worried about structural support they could have come out from the pinch weld a few inches in had a downward 90 and bolt the dash in place.
And the welds at the ends by the vent windows. Why are you taking it out?

Mike
It's always puzzled me why any car maker welded a dash in. I know it's not a part that gets damaged or needs to be changed often, but why not either make it bolt in, or weld in, rather than both bolts and welds?
Thanks for the info. Yup once i got all the crud & old firewall sound deadner out i could see where the dash is also welded on the ends. i guess that's the welds under the vent windows. Anyway i have a replacement dash as sometime during this cars scary past, someone really chopped up the area from the radio all the way to the instrument bezel and then cut the round top off the speaker area. what were they thinking!!! So i gotta decide if it would be easier to cut the parts off the replacement dash and weld them onto the ole dash, or hack out the old one. Again thanks for the info.
If ya want a repair free dash I would cut out the whole dash. Now if you can find a good break point ! ! But sounds like they left ya no other choice. :)
