Today the panel was dry and cured. I put the panel on the door. I closed the door and found it didn’t line up at the bottom any longer. Real bummer. Apparently the diamond material was too thick so it got in the way. I can’t move the sill plate so I put a straight edge on the sill and on the door. I found the door had a high spot at the center. So when the panel came off I ground the wood with a 40 grit flap disk. Dust all over the place. I kept test fitting and grinding. Still to no avail. I ended up removing 3” of the lower panel and just leave the material so it wouldn’t impact the sill plate. Still attached with screws so it looked smooth. Closed the door and it looked great. Now I have to work out the handles. For the passenger side I already mapped out the cuts for the same issue. It seems the eucatile board is too thick for my application. So I need to remove 3” on both sides.

Tonight I got more done. I had to drill out the panel board to 13/16” at all 3 handle holes and I had to drill out the escutcheons because they were 5/8”. I guess they are the wrong ones from flea bay. I needed 3/4 size escutcheons for all three handles. I have to finish the frames next.

Very nice Mario! I had to open up my escutcheons slightly too, even though they were the right ones. Just too tight, and wanted to spin with the handles as I cranked the window.

All are ebay items. I didn’t have any of that stuff. They are not exact in design but they are very close. My other choice was the cal custom style handles with the plastic crank knob adapters but they are billet design and they seem to loosen up when used. So I chose the originals which keep the old style. Except for the door pull strap. It’s the typical custom design still offered on Amazon.

I hung my passenger door panel tonight. Still need to cut out material for the top of the door frames.



after fitting it by sanding the door frame at the sill area I got this door gap at the bottom aligned so I’m ok.

actually the top door frames are bare at the moment. And my window moldings need to go back in too. I didn’t have interior in this thing since I bought the car. I don’t remember what it had.

I took vacation days this week and I did something constructive today. I finished the top of the door frames. I guess the headliner is next. Uggghh I’m not looking forward to taking the seats out. Only good thing is I can put the carpet down while they are out. I have to make the front and rear panels to meet the headliner as well and then there is the big long divider at the bottom of the rear window. It’s a lot to take in at once. I’m just glad to finish the doors for now.

the car came with 4 headliner rods so I’m gonna try to glue them somehow to the 4x6 diamond material I bought. If that don’t work well then I will have to go to the hard panel. Not sure yet.
