Thread: My 65 Falcon Gasser Project

  1. #21
This weekend I finished building the motor mounts and trans mounts for the 460 and also finished hanging the rear springs and rear axle and now I need to get the "Right" stance. Threw some junk iron to simulate finished car weight. Also started mocking up the front axle assembly.Click image for larger version.

Have you figured out the steering box yet? A friend is doing a 460 in a 62 straitaxle car and the steering box looks like it will be in the left rear exhaust port! We are open to sugestions!!!! LOL.

Not sure about the steering box yet, but it looks like the Patriot 57 Chevy BB fenderwell headers are gonna work pretty well with a flange change.

Looks like I'm going to be able to use the stock steering box by moving it forward about 4" (this places it between the header tubes) and by using a 65 Mustang pitman arm. May also have to notch and plate the framerail so I can lower the box about 1/2" or so.

Dropping the box to keep the drag link at less angle is a great idea! I mounted my whole box below the frame to get mine flat and parallel to the tie rod. I had to box in a whole plate to allow it to sit where I needed it.
