great basic tips. good for anyone as a reminder. thanks for posting. Not crazy about the acetone cleanup on the steel though. chemical smoke from cleaned surface is deadly. remember our brake kleen sticky?

Acetone evaporates so quickly that by the time you'd get set up to weld it probably will be long gone. I soak rusty parts in ATF/acetone mix, and have to cover the container, or the acetone will evaporate off it, and leave me with just an ATF soak.
