I personally wont ever run shank style lugnuts again. After nearly losing a wheel this year on my Austin with my ET slots I replaced the ET washer for a conical washer so they'd be more solid. I never checked the new TTO's I got for the '39 to see if they'd accept a shank nut. They came with conical lugnuts so that was great to me.

happened to me once also Vall. I had put some Cragars on a car and didn't realize at the time that the shank of the lugs were just a tad to long so the lugs were bottoming out on the brake drum before the wheels were really tight. I corrected it by doubling up on the washers (much cheaper than getting new shorter shank lug nuts) and never had another problem. It was a lesson learned though. Since then I've always checked the depth of the lug nuts to make sure they didn't extend past the inside mounting flange surface of the rim.
