Hi Steve hope all is well ? I did upload some pics of the trunk lid it is pretty rough but I own it could not figure out how to attach them to this message so if you want to look at them in my pics and see what you think I should do to make a repair panel thanks Steve

Thanks Steve ill send a few pics when I get home from vaca I was thinking relief cuts in the plywood to try to get the proper contour but I'm sure you have a better way thanks again Steve ill get pics sat or sun

Glad to see your getting some time in on the coupe ! ! As far as the deck lid, the relief cuts will just get you in more work then you really want, and filling the cuts will cause more damage with the heat and extra material from the filler wire.
I would like to see a picture of the lid and the area you plan to build the patch panel for.
There are a few ways to stretch the areas on the panel without cutting. I'm thinking there a few areas that have compound curves, and then an edge that has to turn into the trunk jam. Again send me some pictures and we can get a game plane together.

Hope all is well I had a question for you re. Making a patch panel for my trunk lid . I can buy one thats 6" tall I believe my damage is taller and thought maybe I would make a plywood jigg . Maybe with some cut relief's to bow it ?? Obviously this will be time consuming but thought it could be fun/ self educating . I have looked at a lot of you posts showing shaping but unsure about the bow ? Am I nuts ? It's not the $250 for the panel just think if its not long enough it's going to just make it more difficult ? I'm on vaca looks like crap out so off to car and gasser planing thanks Steve for you thoughts and guidance

Ya know there are a few ways to tackle that but first let me check on a stash of stuff I have at the shop.... I bought some pick a nut cabinets and had some odd stuff in there from a fellow that worked for the local airport. Some thing tells me I keep running into wing vents that have a square hole in them. They might make a good sacrifice.

Hey Steve! I need some expert advice to figure out options on my door handle project. I only have one original set of door and crank handles in the Austin, and I want to build a set of 4 ea., but as I mentioned in one post I can't find any steel with square .310" hole for the shaft.
Any ideas how a guy could maybe form these, build these, or shape them from something? I thought about using small pipe to heat and forge to square, but it might be too weak. Also thought about getting small angle iron and welding together to make a square, but inside corners are rounded. I don't know of any material that comes in this size. I need to make 8 pieces about half inch long, or one piece that I can cut 4" off to make the shafts. After that I can fab up handles and cranks to match and weld to the shafts.
